Hope

for inquiring minds...

inked april 6, 2008

the journey to this tattoo started back in swaziland last summer and the overwhelming odds the swazi people are up against. in a country of a million, they have close to 100,000 orphaned by AIDS. they have the highest infection rate in the world. you can hear people saying its hopeless. if something doesn't change, the country will literally die out.

and then you meet them. you see Jesus in their faces and you remember that God is hope (romans 15:13). that as long as He exists so does hope. and its not a lost cause. not yet.

oh, it really is beautiful and i love the meaning behind it! how in the world did you decide where to have it done (as in, on your body)? i think that would be so difficult!

what does david's say?

and, one final question...are you anxious to get another one? you know how everyone says they're addictive...

well, 4 years ago i got a white one on my left wrist. its just the icthus...it basically looks like a scar. not many people notice it.

but then when i wanted to get this one, i wanted it to be visible. i don't like tattoos on girls in many places. basically just the arms (for the most part) and i'm over the whole wrist tattoo thing. so i wanted it to be different.

i do want another one. i actually had to pick between hope and i want to get a dove on the inside of my left upper arm right above my elbow. because the word "shalom" means so much more than peace. it means "completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord." and a dove is usually symbolic of peace. so hopefully i will get that one soon. i just don't ever want to get one because its trendy or whatever. i want them all to mean something. they're going to be there forever.

also, david's says "abide." because he used to write it on his arm every day in sharpie. but it is from John 15:5:: "I am the vine, you are the branches. whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."
